Below are some success stories from those who have been helped by our services:

Eddy: diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and depression

Eddy was fourteen years old and had been diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at age eight. When Eddy came to us, he was in special education math class, his reading capability was far below average, and he was failing science. He had visited clinical child psychologists since his diagnosis and was currently taking multiple medications for attention and depression. Although he had undergone ADHD treatment, Eddy wasnt seeing improvement in his grades. He had received extensive learning disorder evaluations, which showed that he had a very slow information processing speed. Our assessment confirmed this, as well as self-regulation weaknesses. Immediate dietary changes were made and Eddy underwent numerous brain training therapy sessions. Eddy is now in regular math classes, his reading comprehension is above average, he can write long, clear essays, and he just scored advanced in the Standards of Learning test. Eddy has eliminated two of the three medications he had been taking prior to his work at the Center. He is transitioning out of special education and is working toward an advanced diploma.

Catie: under-performing in school

Catie was a fourth grade student in a Richmond, Virginia private school. She came to kSero because her test scores had been steadily declining over the past two years, and her grades were beginning to reflect the drop. Although she was performing poorly, her parents did not believe her learning disability was severe enough to warrant clinical child psychology treatment. Our assessment revealed a specific problem related to language, which accounted for her declining scores in reading and in classes heavily dependent on reading. We also found that her mental energy was low. After one month of implementation of our recommended lifestyle changes, she experienced a complete turnaround, which created a positive cycle that has continued more than two and a half years later. Catie has excellent grades and test scores, is superior in track and other sports, has many friends, and has a close relationship with her parents. Her mother writes:

"I wanted you to know what a great year my daughter is having at school. She has made the honor roll twice. Her independent study skills are impressive. She has completed several projects and reports without help and received A's on all of them. Her teachers are happy with her behavior, homework, class attentiveness and preparation. This has just been a great year for her and I want to thank you for pointing us in a different direction last year. You changed her life and I will always be grateful to you for your sincere help."

David: impulsivity and occasional behavioral problems

David, a fifth grader, was a bright underperformer, distracted while doing homework, forgetful, and showing impulsivity and occasional behavioral problems at school. He had been previously evaluated for Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Central Auditory Processing Disorder by a clinical child psychologist without conclusive results. Review of our assessment data and the results of our behavioral assessment showed several mental skill issues of minor to moderate severity, specifically, low problem-solving skills and low self-regulation. To help David, he had a variety of skill training sessions at the kSero offices, his home environment became more structured, and he received daily reports from school to aid in monitoring and shaping his improvement. By the end of sixth grade, David began making A's and B's on exams, and his performance trend was toward more consistently good work.

Ally: previously diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Ally was eight years old and had been diagnosed with ADHD by a clinical child psychologist. Her parents reported that the school system had essentially given up on her and had classified her as "low achieving." Ally had behavioral problems at home that consisted of angry outbursts and uncontrollability. Our original assessment revealed weaknesses in short-term and long-term memory. Within three days of beginning the changes that we recommended, Ally's mother reported that she had experienced a turnaround in her emotional and behavioral problems. Currently, independent reports from teachers show no evidence of ADD-related symptoms in school. Today, Ally is performing at an average level of two grades higher than last year, and has made A's and B's for the first time.

Ben: exhibiting hyperactivity

Ben was a nine-year old who exhibited signs of Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and was struggling in school. He was referred to us by a physician because his parents refused to treat their third grader with prescription medication. Earlier evaluations by school systems indicated learning and behavior problems; our Cognitive Portfolio revealed high skills in creation, observation, and areas considered "higher order." Within a month of the recommended changes, Ben began to show significant progress and after eight months, a complete turnaround was still in evidence. His mother reported:

"Things have been much better in all ways. We just found that he passed all of his end-of-grade tests. He had a perfect score in math and was advanced in science and social studies."
